From July 1 this year, Australia will enter a bilateral agreement with Greece that will enable young Greeks and Australians to work, study and live in each other’s countries.
Under the Work and Holiday Visa agreement, there will be 500 spots available in each country that will allow Greek and Australian citizens, aged between 18 and 30 years-old, to live abroad for 12 months.
The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, David Coleman stated that this new visa option will provide Australia and Greece more opportunities to participate in work and cultural exchange between the nations.
The new visa arrangements are also beneficial to the Morrison Government, which is committed to providing regional Australia with access to more workers.
If Greek migrants wish to undertake a second working visa, they will be required to work in regional areas for six months in their second year. This will enable them to extend their stay in Australia for a third year.
According to the David Coleman, Greece will be the 43rd country to sign up for the Work and Holiday visa programme.
What are the visa requirements?
To be eligible for the Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa, Greek applicants must have, or be studying toward a tertiary qualification and possess a minimum of “Functional English”. They must also have at least AUD$5,000 available for their initial stay in Australia and meet the Australian health and character requirements.
